Diary of an album: Thomas Bloch

Amazing day with Thomas Bloch near Paris recording theĀ Glass Harmonica, ondes Martenot and Cristal Baschet (above). The Glass Harmonica (invented by Benjamin Franklyn) was particularly hypnotic. It had apparently been used by Dr Franz Mesmer, immortalised by Mozart in Cosi fan tutte, to ‘mesmerise’ his patients. It works.

Thomas is an incredible player and I now have some great new material taking the new album to the next stage.

A very satisfying day with Phil Clemo on his new album, full of musical nourishment that will last me for ages to come. It’s a unique experience and he brings out the best in players. Phil will give the occasional musical pointer or sign post, but other than that, one is given a more or less free rein, the key to making a player feel comfortable enough to dig deeper than normal.
As for engineer Phill Brown………The Finest !
Can’t wait to hear finished music.
